We may want to have at least some consistency in our distro reviews.
Here is the beginning of a list of items we could look for as we test
drive our various distros. If you don't like this list, feel free to
send back your additions/deletions, or create your own list, or ignore
it altogether...
1. Installation - any bugs or issues getting a base install working,
ideally on a network (wireless is a bigger plus).
2. Does it offer web browsing and email "out of the box"?
3. Office/productivity software - editing a Word file, viewing a PDF,
creating a presentation.
4. multimedia - playing an mp3 file (yeah, I know OGG is politically
correct), playing video, esp. YouTube videos. (If it's important to
Linus, it's important to me)
5. Other software you feel important, e.g., java browser plugins (Rob is
excused from this one ;) ), a favorite editor, etc. Does it come as an
easy-to-install package, or did you have to build it from source? If you
built it from source, were dependencies, etc a pain?
6. Overall reactions about usability, customization, speed, flexibility,
etc....
Like I say, feel free to hack away at this...
Cheers,
Vern
